Do a Barrel Roll

Search for “do a barrel roll” without the quotes, and hold onto your desk for dear life. Cool, eh? Maybe you’re even a little nauseous.
But the old barrel roll trick isn’t the only Easter egg Google has up its sleeve. Here are several others:

Tilt/Askew

If you’re obsessive and/or compulsive, this trick isn’t going to sit well with you for long. Search for “tilt” without the quotes. Searching for “askew” accomplishes the same end-result.
Change it back! Change it ba-aaack!

Big Answers to Mind-Bending Questions

Search for “answer to life, the universe, and everything” and you’ll get your answer. It’s a real thinker. Of course, Douglas Adams fans knew the answer without having to search for it.
See also: “the loneliest number,” “once in a blue moon” and “number of horns on a unicorn” for a few other cool calculations.

Did You Mean…

Search for “anagram“—did you mean nag a ram? Or try searching for “recursion” instead. Did you mean recursion? Did you mean recursion? Did you mean recursion? Did you mean recursion? You meant recursion, right?

“As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way!”

It’s a Festivus MIIIRACLE! Google “Festivus,” and once you’ve taken in the wonder of this Google Easter egg, feel free to participate in the Airing of Grievances here in the comments section or indulge in the Feats of Strength with a family member, friend, enemy or stranger at your earliest convenience.

Zerg Rush

An homage to StarCraft, search Google “Zerg Rush” and prepare to protect your search results from a bunch of hungry Google O’s. Click them before they eat all your results. Hurry! Why are you still reading this?!

Blink HTML

Search for “Blink HTML” and OH SWEET BABY J, MY EYES! Brings back some fond memories of simpler web-based times though, doesn’t it? Just needs Bittersweet Symphony auto-playing as a MIDI file.

Party Like It’s 1998

As long as we’re going old-school with blink tags, want to see what Google looked like in 1998? Believe it or believe it, all you have to do is search for “Google in 1998” and you’ll be whisked away. Clicking the initial search results will return the archived versions of those pages, too.

Shake It

While we’re on YouTube, type “Do the Harlem Shake” into the search bar. Ah, memories of a meme from a couple years ago.
Try searching YouTube for these ones, too:

Break It

You can play a game of Breakout, wherein search results from Google Images morph into breakable bricks. Just search for “Atari Breakout” and click the Images tab or go straight to images.google.com and search for “Atari Breakout” there.

download youtube videos using vlc

Download YouTube Videos

The Best Hidden Features of VLC

1.Find a video on YouTube—like this one—and copy the URL from the address bar.
2.In VLC, head to Media > Open Network Stream.
3Paste the YouTube link in the box and click Play.
4.Under Tools, click Codec Information.
5.In the box that says Location, right-click the block of text and click Select All. Copy this text to your clipboard.
6.Go back to your browser and paste the link in the address bar. This will open the source file directly on YouTube's servers.
7.Right-click the video as it plays and select Save Video As.
You can also record clips from YouTube videos as they're streaming in VLC by pressing the red Record button in the player itself. This isn't as direct of a rip, but it's handy if you need to grab a particular clip out of a long video.

How to Hack Wi-Fi: Cracking WPA2-PSK Passwords Using Aircrack-Ng

When Wi-Fi was first developed in the late 1990s, Wired Equivalent Privacy was created to give wireless communications confidentiality. WEP, as it became known, proved terribly flawed and easily cracked. You can read more about that in my beginner's guide to hacking Wi-Fi.
As a replacement, most wireless access points now use Wi-Fi Protected Access II with a pre-shared key for wireless security, known as WPA2-PSK. WPA2 uses a stronger encryption algorithm, AES, that's very difficult to crack—but not impossible. My beginner's Wi-Fi hacking guide also gives more information on this.
The weakness in the WPA2-PSK system is that the encrypted password is shared in what is known as the 4-way handshake. When a client authenticates to the access point (AP), the client and the AP go through a 4-step process to authenticate the user to the AP. If we can grab the password at that time, we can then attempt to crack it.
In this tutorial from our Wi-Fi Hacking series, we'll look at using aircrack-ng and a dictionary attack on the encrypted password after grabbing it in the 4-way handshake. If you're looking for a faster way, I suggest you also check out my article on hacking WPA2-PSK passwords using coWPAtty.

Step 1: Put Wi-Fi Adapter in Monitor Mode with Airmon-Ng

Let's start by putting our wireless adapter in monitor mode. For info on what kind of wireless adapter you should have, check out this guide. This is similar to putting a wired adapter into promiscuous mode. It allows us to see all of the wireless traffic that passes by us in the air. Let's open a terminal and type:
  • airmon-ng start wlan0
Note that airmon-ng has renamed your wlan0 adapter to mon0.

Step 2: Capture Traffic with Airodump-Ng

Now that our wireless adapter is in monitor mode, we have the capability to see all the wireless traffic that passes by in the air. We can grab that traffic by simply using the airodump-ng command.
This command grabs all the traffic that your wireless adapter can see and displays critical information about it, including the BSSID (the MAC address of the AP), power, number of beacon frames, number of data frames, channel, speed, encryption (if any), and finally, the ESSID (what most of us refer to as the SSID). Let's do this by typing:
  • airodump-ng mon0
Note all of the visible APs are listed in the upper part of the screen and the clients are listed in the lower part of the screen.

Step 3: Focus Airodump-Ng on One AP on One Channel

Our next step is to focus our efforts on one AP, on one channel, and capture critical data from it. We need the BSSID and channel to do this. Let's open another terminal and type:
  • airodump-ng --bssid 08:86:30:74:22:76 -c 6 --write WPAcrack mon0
  • 08:86:30:74:22:76 is the BSSID of the AP
  • -c 6 is the channel the AP is operating on
  • WPAcrack is the file you want to write to
  • mon0 is the monitoring wireless adapter*
As you can see in the screenshot above, we're now focusing on capturing data from one AP with a ESSID of Belkin276 on channel 6. The Belkin276 is probably a default SSID, which are prime targets for wireless hacking as the users that leave the default ESSID usually don't spend much effort securing their AP.

Step 4: Aireplay-Ng Deauth

In order to capture the encrypted password, we need to have the client authenticate against the AP. If they're already authenticated, we can de-authenticate them (kick them off) and their system will automatically re-authenticate, whereby we can grab their encrypted password in the process. Let's open another terminal and type:
  • aireplay-ng --deauth 100 -a 08:86:30:74:22:76 mon0
  • 100 is the number of de-authenticate frames you want to send
  • 08:86:30:74:22:76 is the BSSID of the AP
  • mon0 is the monitoring wireless adapter

Step 5: Capture the Handshake

In the previous step, we bounced the user off their own AP, and now when they re-authenticate, airodump-ng will attempt to grab their password in the new 4-way handshake. Let's go back to our airodump-ng terminal and check to see whether or not we've been successful.
Notice in the top line to the far right, airodump-ng says "WPA handshake." This is the way it tells us we were successful in grabbing the encrypted password! That is the first step to success!

Step 6: Let's Aircrack-Ng That Password!

Now that we have the encrypted password in our file WPAcrack, we can run that file against aircrack-ng using a password file of our choice. Remember that this type of attack is only as good as your password file. I'll be using the default password list included with aircrack-ng on BackTrack named darkcOde.
We'll now attempt to crack the password by opening another terminal and typing:
  • aircrack-ng WPAcrack-01.cap -w /pentest/passwords/wordlists/darkc0de
  • WPAcrack-01.cap is the name of the file we wrote to in the airodump-ng command
  • /pentest/passwords/wordlist/darkc0de is the absolute path to your password file

How Long Will It Take?

This process can be relatively slow and tedious. Depending upon the length of your password list, you could be waiting a few minutes to a few days. On my dual core 2.8 gig Intel processor, it's capable of testing a little over 500 passwords per second. That works out to about 1.8 million passwords per hour. Your results will vary.
When the password is found, it'll appear on your screen. Remember, the password file is critical. Try the default password file first and if it's not successful, advance to a larger, more complete password file such as one of these.

8 Reasons Why You Should Be Playing Even More Video Games

Although your friends might roll their eyes every time you talk about playing Clash of Clans, Call of Duty, or Candy Crush Saga, your excessive gaming habits might actually be making you healthier than everyone else.
I've got your attention now, right?
Read on for 8 insanely good life-improving reasons to keep gaming online, or, for all of you kid gamers out there, 8 reasons that'll get your mom off your back for good.

Reason #1: Your Brain Will Literally Get Bigger

Moms around the world may think that spending significant time on the PlayStation rots your brain, yet according to scientists, playing video games regularly will directly increase the size of your brain.
Recently, Super Mario was the focus of a study conducted by Simone Kühn, a scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. Adult participants played the game for 30 minutes each day for an eight-week period. When compared to those who didn't play any video games, the Super Mario gamers developed increased grey matter
This brain may look small, but that's just because it's only one hemisphere.
Image by Denis Balibouse/Reuters What makes grey matter so important? That mushy, literally grey tissue is home to the cell bodies of our nervous system. When there's more grey matter to go around, we become better at controlling our muscles, our speech, and our emotions.
Kühn's research showed that grey matter increased the most in players' right hippocampus, right prefrontal cortex, and cerebellum—areas that are in charge of important functions like spatial navigation, the formation of memories, strategic planning, and motor skills.
The different parts of the brain and what they do.
Image via The Independent Interestingly, Kühn's study also found that your love of gaming can be beneficial on its own. Those who were most excited to play a few rounds of Super Mario exhibited the greatest and most pronounced brain growth.
So, the next time you're stuck at work, anxiously counting down the hours until you and your games are reunited, take a little comfort in the fact that you're growing your brain.

Reason #2: They Can Teach You Everything

Your parents might have hated all those hours you spent on your Sega console growing up, but all those hours you logged gaming taught you more than you know.
Video games, with their unique worlds, varied rules, and unusual teaching methods, can teach you just about anything.
Pick and choose your weapon. Any will do, even a smartphone. (PS: These are actually soaps.)
Image via Firebox Though "practice makes perfect" is a phrase that many people believe incites learning, playing rounds of Halo or Minecraft with your friends can be an equally great way to learn.
The different games you play all feature different rules, processes, and strategies, and, as a result, each time you pick up a new game, you're required to learn the ropes. While experienced gamers might have a better grasp of which buttons perform actions in various games, there's still a learning curve in which players subconsciously learn what the game requires.
The more you put your brain to work learning new rules, tricks, and techniques while attempting to master a game, the more you'll learn overall. After all, nothing makes a strong student better than learning continuously.

Reason #3: You'll Develop a Flexible Brain

Did you know that every time you turn on your gaming console, you're giving your brain a workout? Regular video game action helps your brain become more flexible and adaptable.
Not exactly this kind of flexing, but you get the point.
Image via Shutterstock Dr. Brian D. Glass and a team of researchers at Queen Mary University of London and University College London measured individuals' cognitive power after playing two computer video games: StarCraft and The Sims.
StarCraft, which requires a significant amount of strategy and memory to play, made players faster and more accurate when completing tasks that required brain flexibility. Those who played The Sims, on the other hand, didn't hone their mental skills at all.
[1] Get smarter with StarCraft. [2] And dumber with The Sims
Images via Blizzard Entertainment, EA Gaming your way to a flexible brain doesn't mean your grey matter will help you pull off a crane pose in yoga class. Rather, your brain will become sharper and better at strategy. Your cognitive flexibility, as Glass defines it, is your ability to adapt to different tasks quickly. Those whose brains are most flexible are able to easily switch back and forth between tasks, and typically solve problems by thinking of multiple ideas simultaneously.
Those hours spent carefully developing strategies online are applicable to your everyday life. Playing StarCraft and other similar games increase your ability to make quick decisions and learn from mistakes. Remember, you can only master the splits if you stretch on a regular basis—your cognitive flexibility works the same way, so hop on your computer or gaming console and play for a while.

Reason #4: They'll Improve Your Reading Ability

If you're someone who's always disliked reading, video games might actually help you become more interested in books. Particularly helpful for those who have a hard time focusing their attention, spending some quality time gaming can get you focused.
If only reading was "this" easy.
Image by Gillian Blease/WIRED Perhaps most impressively, video games can have a great effect on those with dyslexia. Though the jury is still out within the scientific community regarding the exact neurocognitive cause of dyslexia, video games have recently been found to hold a possible cure.
In a study conducted by a group of Italian researchers, children who played just 12 hours of action-based video games saw a huge improvement in their reading abilities. Out of all other game types, those featuring a heavy dose of action helped young, dyslexic readers better than an entire year of tutoring and training. The study's participants could read faster and paid better attention while doing so.
While you might not face the challenges of dyslexia, your brain will still benefit from an increase in focus. Video games train our brains' attention system with their quick bursts of action. While playing, we constantly shift our attention to various changes on the screen before us, responding to audio and visual cues.
These kids improved their reading time by 0.39 syllables per second.
Image via Telegraph If you're looking to improve your brain's attention span, spend some quality time with an action-based game. Both your ability to focus and your reading abilities will improve as a result.

Reason #5: You'll Be a Happier Person

Turning on your gaming console could provide relief from your bad mood better than talking out your feelings with a friend. Through the use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), video games can help players retrain their brain and eliminate negative thinking.
Playing a fantasy game helped teenagers beat their depression, according to a study conducted by a group of researchers from New Zealand. The researchers developed a video game that led players through a world in which they literally battled and destroyed their unhappy thoughts.
This is exactly how every family should be.
Image via Shutterstock After playing for a few hours each week, 44 percent of participants were cured of their depression, while 66 percent felt their symptoms were reduced by at least 30 percent. Only 26 percent of those who met with a therapist and talked out their feelings rather than jumping into the virtual world overcame depression.
Video games have also been shown to improve the overall emotional well-being in senior, so it's important no matter what age you are.
Even old people can benefit from video games.
Image by Anne McLaughlin/North Carolina State University While you might not struggle with the symptoms or signs of depression, everyone needs a mood boost now and then. Cure your Monday blues by playing a video game you love, and your mental state will literally be transported to a different world. While fantasy worlds were best for those suffering from depression, your favorite action game will help you release your emotions just as well.

Reason #6: They Improve Your Eyesight

Go ahead, stare at your TV screen all day: as long as you're playing action-based video games, you'll only improve your eyesight.
Fast-paced action games are best for improving vision.
Image via Shutterstock Thanks to their unexpected bursts of action, varied perspectives, and careful details, first-person shooter video games are an easy fix for poor vision. As you train your focus on the playing field before you, sudden changes in the nonstop action require you to focus your eyes carefully if you want to catch the details. When your eyes have to adapt quickly, the muscles become stronger to accommodate these new needs.
Can't stand shooting bad guys while gaming? Don't worry, your vision will still become sharper and clearer. Gamers with 20/20 vision find their eyes improving with normal play of any game.

Reason #7: You'll Get More Done at Work

Tuning out distractions and getting down to work is easier if you enjoy what you're hearing in the background. Listening to the soundtrack of your favorite games while working will make you more productive, and, of course, make you a more pleasant employee.
This is not exactly what I mean by getting more done at work.
Image by star5112/Flickr The unique soundtracks of video games not only make you happy—they also remind you of those difficult-to-earn achievements you've unlocked. These enjoyable reminders of all the fun you've had gaming encourage your brain to release dopamine, which makes you happy. That happiness spills over into your work, increasing your productivity, accuracy, and speediness at work.

Reason #8: They Reduce Stress

You most likely already know how great it feels to express your rage in a Black Ops battle, but did you know that each round you play helps you relieve stress?
A study by Texas A&M psychology professor Christopher Ferguson measured the effects of violent and non-violent video games on players. After completing a task designed to make them angry, the participants played either a non-violent game, violent game, or nothing at all. Those who gamed with violent video games were calmer and in better moods than those who didn't play.
It may look painful, but this is actually relieving stress.
Image via Crave Online Turn on the most violent game in your collection if you need to blow off steam. Immersing yourself in a vicious, good-versus-evil game helps you to express any angry, negative feelings through gameplay—which is definitely better than screaming at your roommate. You'll not only feel less stressed, but also be better able to control your mood.
According to Ferguson, letting your hostility out in a virtual world helps you manage your emotions in reality. When playing online, you're free to express all of the angry feelings you wish, without harming others.

Start Reaping the Benefits... Now!

Before you consider spending less time in front of your TV, remember how beneficial gaming is for your entire body. Not only will you be in better spirits, but you'll also live a healthier life. Now go ahead, pick up your controller and spend a few hours with your favorite games!

How to Mess Up a Computer As A Prank

This is one of the easiest and best computer pranks ever invented. It's simple to do, and works great. This prank causes all of the icons on the desktop to be unclickable, as well as the start bar.
1. At your desktop, close all windows if any are open, and press Print Screen/SysRq on the keyboard.
2. Go to your default picture manager and right click and paste. A small picture of your desktop will appear.
3. Set this picture as your backround, right click then select "set as backround".
4. Take every single one of your icons and place them in a folder in My Documents. This will not work with the Recycle Bin.
5. Right click on the start bar, click properties, check Auto-hide taskbar.
6. Enjoy.

Tips

  • To fix, find the folder where you put your icons, and put all the icons back on the desktop. Put your cursor at the bottom of the screen, and the taskbar will appear, right click, click properties, and uncheck "auto-hide taskbar". Now change your backround to what it used to be.
  • You can use this trick to make people think higher of you. "Break" their computer, then fix it, and people will be amazed.
  • If you REALLY want to tick someone off, change all of their personal settings too. Once they figure out how to fix thier computer, they will have to change their settings back too.

Warnings

  • THIS PRANK CAN BE REALLY ANNOYING!!!! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING BAD THAT COULD HAPPEN BECAUSE OF THIS PRANK!!!!
  • If you play this prank on someone, make sure you can access their computer quickly in case the prank needs to be removed.

How to Make a fake virus / desktop shortcut that will shutdown a computer

Desktop shortcuts are a great way of making the programs you use a lot more accessible, but today many PC users overuse their desktop space and have icons covering over half the screen, including the one for a picture of a dog they looked at six months ago once. This prank is a great way to teach such a person a lesson, or any PC user who you have a problem with. It entails creating a new desktop shortcut with the name and icon of a commonly used program (the web browser works great) that instead of executing the program will instead display a custom message, then turn off the computer automatically after an amount of time that you set. It won't hurt much and creates a very scary effect, scalable based on what you enter into the custom text box.
Here's the text that you use as the destination of the shortcut, when prompted:
shutdown -s -t 60 -c "write anything here"
Except you write anything in the write anything here part.
